Characteristics of a good working mule are as follows.
- Good manners, with a soft mouth and responding to a light rein.
- The mule should be shifty, smooth, and relaxed and have his feet well under him at all times.
- When stopping, hind feet should be well under him.
- Mule should be able to work at a reasonable speed and still be under control of the rider.
- Mules are to be alert and respond to riders’ cues without resistance.
- Mules should work with the head in a natural position.
- Tail carried in a quiet manner.
